Bdet vs Foamie: two NZ toilet paper foams compared

Bdet (styled BDÉT) and Foamie are both toilet paper foams made in Auckland. You pump the foam onto dry toilet paper, wipe, and flush the paper as normal. Where they differ is bottle size, price, scent and a few ingredients. This page sets those out side by side, using the details each brand publishes, with links so you can check them. Foamie wrote this guide, and the two brands are separate companies with no connection to each other.

What Bdet and Foamie are

Bdet is a New Zealand personal hygiene brand founded by Billie Jo Hohepa-Ropiha. Its main product, Bdet Foam Wash, is a foam you pump onto ordinary toilet paper to turn it into a cleansing wipe. Bdet's product pages say it is made in Auckland, and Invest Auckland reports that the brand had an online soft launch in December 2018 before moving into supermarkets. Bdet also sells a room perfume, paired with the foam wash in its Personal Hygiene Set.

Foamie Gentle Toilet Paper Foam does the same job. It is a pump foam in a 60 ml bottle, blended, filled and labelled in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, with one scent: mānuka, cedar and fig.

Ingredients compared

The two formulas share the same cleansers, Lauryl Glucoside (sugar-derived) and Sodium Coco-Sulfate (coconut-derived), and the same preservatives, Benzyl Alcohol and Dehydroacetic Acid, along with Citric Acid. Aqua is the label name for water and Parfum for fragrance. Foamie's list adds Glycerine, a humectant, and Panthenol, also known as pro-vitamin B5. Bdet's list names Limonene and Linalool, two fragrance components that cosmetic labels often list separately. Both contain fragrance, and formulas can change, so check the label on the bottle you buy.

  • Bdet Foam Wash, from Bdet's FAQ: Water, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, Citric Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Limonene, Linalool.
  • Foamie Gentle Toilet Paper Foam, from the Foamie product page: Aqua, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Glycerine, Parfum, Panthenol, Citric Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid.

Price and how long a bottle lasts

Price per ml is the simplest like-for-like number, and it depends mostly on the size you buy. Bdet's refills, sold for topping up a Bdet bottle, are the lowest per ml here at about 14 to 19 cents. Among the pump bottles, Foamie's 60 ml is about 33 cents per ml, Bdet's 100 ml about 39 cents and Bdet's 30 ml about 93 cents.

Per ml is not the same as per use, because each brand suggests a different number of pumps and pumps vary in size, so each brand's own estimate of how long a bottle lasts is worth a look too. Bdet says a 30 ml bottle lasts one person four to six weeks, and a 100 ml bottle lasts one person around three months or a family of six around four to six weeks. Foamie says a 60 ml bottle gives roughly 400 pumps, around 90 days for one adult, at about 5 cents a use.

Scents and fragrance

Bdet describes Pikopiko as tropical, with hints of coconut, mango and pikopiko, the native silver fern. Newanewa is described as freshly washed linen with mint and a hint of lime. Foamie's single scent is mānuka, cedar and fig.

At the time of writing neither brand sells an unscented foam. Bdet's site has a Baby Foam Wipe collection, but it had no products listed when we checked in October 2026. Our fragrance free toilet paper foam guide covers what to look for on a label.

How each brand says to use it

Bdet's FAQ suggests wiping first with plain toilet paper, then putting two or three pumps of foam on a fresh piece of paper and wiping again, with no water needed.

Foamie's directions are to fold three or four sheets of toilet paper, pump once onto the centre, wait about two seconds for the foam to soak in, then wipe and flush the paper as normal. Our how to use toilet paper foam guide goes through it step by step.

Both brands say to stop using the product if your skin reacts. With either one, what goes down the toilet is toilet paper, which Watercare lists as one of the three things that belong in the loo, along with pee and poo.

Where to buy Bdet and Foamie in NZ

Bdet sells online at b-det.com, and its where sold page lists New World supermarkets in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Manawatū and the South Island. Ranging varies by store, so check with your local New World before making a trip. Bdet's shipping policy says it usually ships orders two to three days after they are placed.

Foamie is sold online at foamie.co.nz and sent from Auckland by NZ Post. Shipping is free nationwide on orders over $25. Under that, standard delivery is $4.99 to Auckland metro, $5.99 to the rest of New Zealand and $8.99 to rural delivery addresses, and Australian orders are a flat NZ$25, tracked. The product page lists the full ingredients and directions.

Which one suits you?

Both are made in Auckland, share the same cleansing base and are used the same basic way. The practical differences are size, price and scent. If you want a large bottle or plan to refill, Bdet's 100 ml bottle and refills give you more foam per purchase and, in the refill sizes, a lower price per ml. If you would rather spend less up front, Foamie's 60 ml bottle is NZ$19.95, and two bottles together ship free. If scent decides it, the choice is between Bdet's Pikopiko or Newanewa and Foamie's mānuka, cedar and fig.
